Jewish education and experiences are and have been important and significant priorities for most of my life. As a child I attended our conservative synagogue’s Sunday and Hebrew Schools and graduated from Gratz College High School in Philadelphia. In high school, I was an active member of B’nai Brith Girls (BBG) and held leadership positions in our chapter, Region and Area. BBG first introduced me to spiritual aspects of Judaism. As an adult I have participated in numerous adult education programs and havurahs and been a member/leader/volunteer in many Jewish organizations and charities in the Washington, DC area. In 2013 I was introduced to Rabbi Nadya Gross and Wisdom School: Secrets My Grandmother Told Me, which led to some of the most transformative experiences of my life. Studying with Reb Nadya and reading Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi’s teachings on Renewal Judaism jump-started my longings as a seeker of spiritual wisdom.
In 2023 I laboriously learned to chant Torah and proudly celebrated my Bat Mitzvah, an accomplishment my mother had modeled for me when she had her Bat Mitzvah in her 70’s. I have come to understand and practice Jewish life, tradition and wisdom in ways I never knew before Wisdom School. I am committed to continue learning and pursuing the sacred wisdom and practices of our Jewish teachings and sharing that with others. I have a new and deeper understanding of and relationship with my ancestors, and a greater appreciation for the significance of our lineage in my world today because of what I have been learning over the past 12 years. I am also a loving wife, mother, aunt, cousin, and friend, a devotee of nature and the outdoors throughout all of the seasons, an enthusiastic gardener, a cook, an avid reader, a knitter, a fused glass artist, a retired attorney, and simultaneously, a dreamer, a realist and a cock-eyed optimist, which I believe is the only way I can get through these times.
